The New Yorker: Does poverty make you sick?

This article really is about a decade late. Nonetheless, Paul Tough’s efforts to bring the social determinants of health perspective to broader public awareness is highly commendable. Despite the visible structural limitations, recently there seems to be a growing movement amongst Americans towards equitable public health. It naturally goes far beyond what this article argues for: Americans today are starting to re-examine their values and work ethics, and wondering what is working and what isn’t. Change is in the air! It’s slow but gathering momentum is hardly a quick and easy business.
